23 July 2010, Almelo – Netherlands based TenCate Outdoor
Fabrics has introduced a new inherently flame-retardant fabric for group tents,
called TenCate Campshield. Scouting
Nederland, which is celebrating its centenary this year, will include this new
safety fabric from TenCate as a standard item in its collection of group tents
for scouts.
On the eve of the Jubilee Jamboree held to celebrate this very special
anniversary, Scouting Nederland dcided to provide its members with tents made
of inherently flame-retardant TenCate Campshield™ fabric in addition to their
cotton group tents. Joost Hover, Head of Commercial Activities of Scouting
Nederland says:
“In recent years safety awareness has grown rapidly in our
country and we see this as a positive development. By continuing to undertake
initiatives and not per se wait for the authorities to introduce regulations,
Scouting Nederland is displaying its sense of responsibility. Now that this
inherently flame-retardant fabric from TenCate has been put on the market, we
would like to offer our members tents made specifically of this fabric. In this
way we are investing to the maximum in safe accommodation for our groups.”
Herman Klompenmaker, Marketing & Sales Manager of TenCate Outdoor Fabrics
explains: “TenCate Campshield fabric is extremely strong and resistant to
scorching, smouldering and sparks. This inherently flame-retardant cloth
actually works like a time buffer: in the unlikely event of a fire breaking out
in or around a group tent, this flame-retardant fabric will provide extra
protection and thus more time to find a safe refuge.” The fabric is also said
to have great breathable and moisture-regulating capacities, which is important
for creating a pleasant climate in the tent, particularly with large groups.
The first Scouting tent made of TenCate Campshield fabric can be found at
JubJam 100 in Roermond next week. To mark its centenary, TenCate has presented
Scouting Nederland with a huge tepee, also made of TenCate Campshield fabric.
