TenCate Geosynthetics Americas has developed a third patent pending geosynthetic for road and railway reinforcement, called TenCate Mirafi RS280i. The woven product completes the RSi series of geosynthetics for base reinforcement and subgrade stabilization.
According to the latest International Textile Machinery Shipment Statistics (ITMSS) published this week by the ITMF (International Textile Manufacturers Federation) shipments of new textile machinery fell in 2012 in most segments compared with 2011, although a new record was set for shipments of large diameter circular knitting machines.

When I began my consulting practice in 1986, I discovered a book called “Innovation – The Attackers Advantage” (Summit Books) by Richard Foster, then a Director of the major consulting firm McKinsey & Co. His message: ” . . . companies must return to the attack . . . the annals of business is filled with . . . companies that seemed profitable yet were in the midst of bankruptcy because they did not anticipate when their present products would become unprofitable and underestimated the strengths of their competitor’s attacks.”

Clariant has signed an agreement to sell its Textile Chemicals, Paper Specialties and Emulsions businesses to SK Capital. The total consideration of the sale amounts to approximately CHF 502 million, out of which approximately 460 million in cash, equivalent to 6.3 times the estimated full year 2012 recurring EBITDA of those businesses. The divestment has been approved by the Boards of both companies. Subject to regulatory approvals, the transaction is expected to close by the end of the second quarter of 2013.

One thing I noticed at this year's Techtextil was a considerable rise in both exhibitors and visitors from Russia, compared to the last show two years ago.
There are no figures available from show organiser Messe Frankfurt to confirm this as yet, but there are many signs that the economy in Russia is currently very favourable for major technical textile markets - if only anyone quite knew how to get in.

According to a new report by Textiles
Intelligence, man-made fibre output in Japan fell in 2009 for the ninth
consecutive year. Furthermore, the decline, at 22.0%, was more than twice as
fast as any previous fall during the nine-year period. Output of filament yarn
plunged by 29.9% while that of staple fibres decreased by a substantial 15.1%.
The fall in filament yarn output reflected double digit declines in all the

that it has acquired German distributor GLT based in Pforzheim, Germany. Revenues of GLT were not disclosed.
