APJeT partners with VF Corporation to explore uses for its fabric finishing technology

The technology is part of a programme to help VF test next generation manufacturing processes for greater flexibility.

APJeT, a leader in atmospheric plasma technology, will work together with VF Corporation, a leader in branded lifestyle apparel, footwear and accessories, to explore potential uses for its textile finishing technology.

The technology, which adds high performance finishes to fabrics without the use of water or heat, is part of a programme to help VF test next generation manufacturing processes for greater flexibility within its supply chain.

“Our work with VF is a response to the need for technology-based solutions that improve the textile manufacturing process,” said John Emrich, APJeT CEO. “We see incredible opportunities for waterless applications of finishes and look forward to exploring these possibilities with VF.”

Collaboration

The collaboration between APJeT and VF is a result of VF’s Global Innovation Center strategy. VF operates three centres in the US employing teams of scientists, engineers, designers and other experts to develop advancements in apparel, footwear and accessories for its 30-plus brands.

APJeT

APJeT is the industry leader in atmospheric plasma technology. This technology uses lower level amounts of chemistry thereby reducing negative environmental impacts, eliminates water usage, and reduces the high energy requirements needed for traditional wet finishing of textiles, the company reports.

Originally founded in 2002, the company began expansion of its development work from concept to commercial application in 2008. Although originally focused on textiles, APJeT's technology can be used in a wide range of potential markets including applications on films and glass.
