At the FIS World Cup in St. Moritz this past weekend, the French team glided to a sweeping victory in both the Men’s and Ladies’ Giant Slalom wearing Directa Plus and Colmar’s range of graphene-enhanced ski suits.

These suits are designed to significantly improve performance for the benefit of athletes, professionals and sports enthusiasts alike. This is the first time the graphene-enhanced ski suits have been worn in an international sporting competition, according to manufacturers.

Colmar and Directa Plus launched the Graphene Plus (G+) range at ISPO Munich in January, and the ski jackets are expected to be on the market by 2017. The range also includes technical underwear and a polo shirt.

Graphene Plus

The fabric used to make the ski suits incorporates Directa Plus’ G+, which makes the material both bacteriostatic and electrostatic, thereby reducing the friction with air and water to enable top sporting performance, the company reports.

In addition, the thermally conductive properties of the suits mean they are able to act as a filter between the body and the external environment, ensuring that the wearer always remains at an ideal temperature.

The French team captured all three podium positions following the Men’s Giant Slalom on Saturday, winning the gold, silver and bronze medals.

Fourth place Phillip Schoerghofer of Austria finished a full 0.62 seconds behind French bronze medallist Mathieu Faivre, and 0.76 seconds behind the gold medallist Thomas Fanara. In total only 0.14 seconds separated the French skiers wearing the graphene suits, less than a quarter of the time separating them from their closest rivals.

In the Woman’s Slalom, the French also secured an unexpected silver medal when Taina Bairoz achieved a second place finish.
