Cellulose fibre producer Lenzing has announced it will partner Litrax AG to introduce a unique fibre blend of its Tencel lyocell regenerated wood pulp fibre and Litrax-1 natural bamboo stem fibres, which incorporates DNA in the bamboo fibre to provide authentication.

Following recent questions over the authenticity over bamboo fibre, Litrax is to deliver the Litrax -1 natural bamboo fibres with special DNA coding to help protect its vertical supply chain and customers. The DNA coding will ensure that purchasers are buying original, authentic bamboo fibre.

Four spinning partners have been selected to introduce the bamboo yarn to the textiles and apparel industries, which will create a range of worsted and ring spun yarns for the market. “We see Lenzing as an ideal partner due to their world leadership in man-made cellulose fibres such as Tencel, Lenzing Modal and Lenzing Viscose,” said Felix Stutz, President of Litrax.

Litrax’s says goal is to manufacture natural fibres with mechanical and enzymatic processes and the first such product is bamboo which is a fast growing renewable resource with universal applications. In fabrics, Litrax-1 bamboo can be combined with other fibres to create unique properties that will allow finished garments to provide enhanced comfort and many other benefits to the wearer, the company says. Litrax says it has already launched stem fibres and nano particles in combination with man-made fibres to the market.

“Litrax is a sustainable, vertical and synergistic company, headquartered in Switzerland. It has developed natural and sustainable fibres and additives for various applications and industries including textiles, lifestyle, bio plastics and automotive. Litrax is an innovative, environmentally conscious supplier of advanced technology products and materials to discriminating markets with offices in Switzerland and the United States,” a spokesperson for the company said yesterday.
