PrimaLoft, a leader in providing comfort solutions with high-performance insulations and fabrics, presented its latest innovation PrimaLoft Gold Insulation Eco, with 55% post-consumer recycled content, at the OutDoor Show in Friedrichshafen last week.

PrimaLoft Gold Insulation Eco is the result of a challenge Patagonia set for PrimaLoft to add a post-consumer recycled component to its existing PrimaLoft Gold Insulation used in the Nano Puff collection.

PrimaLoft Gold Insulation Eco will be featured exclusively in the Nano Puff line for one year, beginning Fall ’16, before becoming available to the rest of the industry for Fall ’17, and beyond.

Collaboration

PrimaLoft Gold Insulation Eco matches exactly the same performance characteristics as the original PrimaLoft Gold Insulation, according to the manufacturer. The new product is said to be able to help achieve superior warmth-to-weight ratios, both wet and dry performance ratings, softness, dry times, compressibility and durability – tested under hard conditions both in the field and laboratory.

“We appreciate the opportunity to collaborate with PrimaLoft to develop a uniquely sustainable product,” said Kristo Torgersen, Product Line Director of Alpine and Snow at Patagonia. “This partnership is part of our continuing efforts to reduce the environmental impact of doing business, here at Patagonia and beyond. Ultimately, there are three winners: the environment, the consumer and the retailer.”

Product and performance requirements

“PrimaLoft Gold Insulation Eco meets Patagonia’s strict product and performance requirements and delivers on PrimaLoft and Patagonia’s promise to lead the industry in terms of corporate responsibility and sustainability practices. It is important for both of us to share this breakthrough innovation, so PrimaLoft Gold Insulation Eco will be available to the industry beginning in the fall of 2017,” said Mike Joyce, president and CEO of PrimaLoft, Inc.

This unique partnership between Patagonia and PrimaLoft has resulted in the next generation of sustainable insulation and pushes technology development even further with the consumer benefiting from the performance, while helping the environment.
