JEC Group, the largest organisation exclusively dedicated to the composites industry, has announced the ten winners of its prestigious 2014 JEC Americas Innovation Awards programme, which highlights the most pivotal advances in composites design, manufacturing and application.
JEC will recognise the ten winning companies and their innovation partners during the third annual JEC Americas exhibition that will be held from 13-15 May at the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta.
TenCate Advanced Composites, a leading supplier of advanced thermoset and thermoplastic composites materials, and Performance Polymer Solutions have entered into an exclusive partnership to jointly develop, market and offer high temperature prepreg materials to the aerospace industry.
The materials will be produced at the production facilities of TenCate in Morgan Hill, CA, USA, and will be formulated with the line of innovative, high temperature resin systems of Performance Polymer Solutions, based in Columbia Falls, MT, USA.
TenCate Advanced Armour has been selected as a supplier for General Dynamics European Land Systems (GDELS) for the delivery of lightweight and modular armour systems for a total of 176 vehicles for the German Bundeswehr (unified armed forces) to be supplied by 2015.
The TenCate armour systems represent a weight-efficient way of significantly increasing the survivability of the people inside the vehicles. The solutions are engineered to fit the EAGLE V perfectly to ensure maximum protection and minimum weight, the company reports.
Berria Bike, a manufacturer of high performance bikes, has introduced its new 2014 bikes in Feria de Madrid. The top models, Bravo Team 29 MTB and Team Belador Road, frames are constructed with the carbon fibre material TeXtreme.
David Vitoria, R&D Manager, Berria Bike, commented: “We are very pleased to have TeXtreme carbon fibre fabrics in our top range of frames. Together with our technologies Triple Monocoque, EPSS and resins CNT Nanotech, TeXtreme has allowed us to build bike frames that have ultra-light weight combined with for us previously unthinkable high stiffness values. BMSvision will exhibit the latest version of its Manufacturung Execution Systems (MES) for weaving, knitting, tufting and spinning, at ITMA Asia 2014 that will be taking place in Shanghai from16-20 June.
All of these systems include software modules for real time machine monitoring, production scheduling, fabric inspection, yarn inventory management and traceability.
Composites Germany, the trade association founded in 2013, has replaced the AVK - Industrievereinigung Verstärkte Kunststoffe (Federation of Reinforced Plastics) as a member of the EuCIA (European Composites Industry Association).
Through its membership of the EuCIA, Composites Germany is expected to be able to represent the interests of the German composites industry more broadly on the European level.

The carbon textile solutions company Sigmatex has announced a EUR 2.8 million investment programme that is due to come on stream in the fourth quarter of 2014, following the positive results that the company has achieved in the fourth quarter of 2013.
The multi-axial investment programme includes another state of the art Liba Multi-axial line, which is further enhanced by a dedicated Meyer Powder Coating line incorporating infra-red heating and a belt press, to enhance the company’s strategy for nonwoven fabrics.
