The Saxon Textile Research Institute (STFI) has been awarded with the German Resource Efficiency Award 2013 for the research project ‘CarbonWasteCycle – recycling concept for carbon fibre waste’.
The objective of the project is the re-use of carbon fibre cuttings or waste or bad batches for (extreme) lightweight construction using suitable recycling processes.
“Because sustainability is an important matter from a researcher’s perspective, we are proud to be honoured with this award,” said Andreas Berthel, Managing Director of the STFI.

Ahlstrom, a high performance fibre-based materials company, has launched Ahlstrom AceBlade, a new product for the wind energy market.
AceBlade is an unidirectional glass fibre reinforcement with superior fatigue resistance and enhanced mechanical properties. The wind energy industry is facing a challenge of producing longer and lighter blades and patent-pending AceBlade addresses this market need, the company believes.

TenCate Advanced Armour has been selected by aerospace manufacturer Embraer as the supplier of aerospace armour for the Embraer A-29 Super Tucano military aircraft. The aircraft will be supplied in partnership with Sierra Nevada Corporation (SNC) as the prime contractor for the aircraft.
TenCate Advanced Armour and local partner Aerotron Brazil are working closely together with Embraer in the Joint Development Phase to finalise the design and prototypes of the ballistic protection, according to the time schedule, weight and performance requirements for the Super Tucano military aircraft programme.
METYX Composites has acquired the North American Bus Industries’ (NABI) former production facilities in Kaposvar, Hungary.

The transaction includes a state-of-the-art composites manufacturing facility and ancillary buildings totalling 12,000 square metres of closed space, as well as over 230,000 square meters of industrial land, and a skilled workforce.

These included Aero Engineering Show 2013, Composites Engineering Show 2013, Automotive Engineering Show 2013, Auto Electronics 2013 and Printable Electronics for Industry.
Boasting a record total attendance of some 12,000, this year’s Advanced Engineering UK group of events recorded a massive 30% attendance increase.
