The company will integrate the production equipment, technology, and existing contracts of BLS Textiles into its subsidiary DEW Engineering & Development ULC (DEW).

DEW is a leader in military vehicle armour upfitting, design, manufacturing, and integration. The acquisition extends DEW and CoorsTek vehicle armour solutions to protect officers across a range of police, security, and law enforcement agencies.

Meeting industry standards

DEW becomes the only ballistic door panel manufacturer able to pass the stringent National Institute of Justice (NIJ) Level III and Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) standards for ballistic protection, the company reports.

Specific OEM solutions meeting these industry standards are available for factory and retrofit installation in several of the most popular police sedan and utility models in North America, according to the manufacturer.

Armour capabilities

These ballistic door panels incorporate CoorsTek CeraShield ceramic armour into a custom insert that converts a vehicle door into a protective shield. “We are proud to expand our armour capabilities into the law enforcement sector to help protect those who protect us,” said Ian Marsh, President of DEW Engineering & Development.

“Now the combined capabilities of CoorsTek and DEW span the entire process of equipping police, security, and military vehicles with armour protection – from the design and manufacture of hard armour systems through turnkey vehicle integration.”

BLS Textiles

BLS Textiles develops ballistic solutions based on the customer’s ballistic, operational and financial considerations. Working with a wide-range of composites and ceramics, the company can select the optimum material combinations and processes.

The company has developed a number of armour systems for DND to support the efforts in Afghanistan. These include floor and door armour panels for the heavy transport vehicle and floor and side armouring for the multi-purpose engineering vehicle.

DEW Engineering & Development

A CoorsTek company, DEW Engineering is a designer, manufacturer and integrator of complex systems including vehicle armour, platform integration, and large-scale manufacturing for police, security, defence, government agencies, and industry.
