Scott & Fyfe launches carbon fibre fabric range
29th October 2012, Tayport
Scottish industrial textiles manufacturer, Scott & Fyfe Ltd, has announced the launch of a new line of carbon fabrics for the composites industry. The product range will come under the company’s new Polycarb brand.
Starting with uni-directional carbon tapes that will range in weights from 100gsm – 1000gsm, the product family will be extended to include a range of specialised high performance fabrics that are focused on the specific needs of Scott & Fyfe’s customers and target markets.
“Utilising our depth of experience, proprietary tow spreading technology and specialised production systems, we have developed products that we feel will offer our clients a competitive advantage. We are also happy to work on a 1-2-1 basis with our customers to develop bespoke solutions to their technical challenges,” Paul McMullan, Business Manager at Scott & Fyfe Ltd said.
“With over 20 years experience in the composite industry, Scott & Fyfe have built up a strong reputation for providing innovative, high quality and excellent value reinforcement fabrics to the composite markets.”
The forward thinking Scottish industrial textiles manufacturer announced last month it is planning to put ownership of its business into the hands of its employees, transforming itself into an employee owned company. The business is currently owned by the Tough family.
In 1864 Mr Scott & Mr Fyfe started a linen works in the town and the company is now one of the few survivors of the Tayside jute industry. Scott & Fyfe reinvented itself in the 1960s through the early replacement of jute with polypropylene and ongoing commitment to reinvestment in the latest technologies under the chairmanship of Hamish Tough who retired from the company in 2009.
New chairman Professor Nick Kuenssberg and chief executive John Lupton, recruited in 2010, introduced a number of significant changes to ensure a profitable professionally managed business with an innovation and export led strategy at its core.
Scott & Fyfe is a global provider of innovative textiles covering a variety of markets. Included in its product offer are:
- Stitch bonding and warp knitted fabrics which include Textron for rubber underlay backing
- Knitted fabrics and 3D spacer fabrics for the automotive industry
- Loop fabric for the technical and abrasive manufacturing industry
- Advanced glass fibre reinforcement materials for the FRP industry
- Woven fabrics for agricultural applications
Carbon fibre fabrics are a new area for the company.
