Toray to produce new carbon in Mexico

Toray manufactures a wide range of grades, from ultra-high-performance carbon for aerospace applications to high strength and average elastic modulus carbon fibres. © Toray IndustriesToray Industries reports the development of a new variety of regular tow carbon fibre it says has an outstanding cost-performance ratio, and will build a new carbonisation facility for its mass production at the Mexican plant of its US subsidiary Zoltek.

The new plant is expected to start production at the end of 2018.

The overall global carbon fibre market is expected to continue growing at a rate exceeding 10% annually as the material is utilised in various industries, the company observes, and at the same time market needs are diversifying.
