Combining innovation, technology, and styling to combat the difficult economic climate, apparel and fabric suppliers generated positive energy at last week’s ISPO in Munich. The four-day fair, featuring apparel, gear, textiles, and accessories for winter sports, was the most successful ever, according the Messe München organisation. Some 81,000 visitors from 109 countries crowded the halls, where 2,481 exhibitors from 52 countries filled 103,220 square metres of space with displays of expertise.

Nilit has announced it will be introducing its Nilit Breeze cooling yarn to Asian markets at the forthcoming Intertextile Shanghai 2012 tradeshow. Nilit Breeze, the Israeli company’s most recent innovation, is said to be a revolutionary nylon 6.6 fibre that has been proven to cool wearers by almost one degree Celsius in comparison to fabrics knitted with standard fibres.

A few weeks ago I attended the annual Smart Fabrics Conference 2012 held in Miami, Florida. This industry-focused event brings together owners, players, entrepreneurs and developers from various textile-based R&D fields interested in intelligent embedded technological applications.
Dow Chemical Company announced the introduction of its technology platform for Rhoplex Econext Acrylic Binders for the North American hygiene and medical market yesterday at the World Of Wipes conference. The series of low and ultra-low formaldehyde binders allows companies to manufacture end-use nonwoven products with minimal levels of formaldehyde and comply with the industry’s most stringent standards.

Leading manufacturer of warp knitted seamless (WKS) garments Cifra, which has recently signed a collaboration agreement with circular seamless giant Tefron, exhibited at ISPO in Munich last month for the first time, claiming the show was a resounding success. One thing I noticed at this year's Techtextil was a considerable rise in both exhibitors and visitors from Russia, compared to the last show two years ago.
There are no figures available from show organiser Messe Frankfurt to confirm this as yet, but there are many signs that the economy in Russia is currently very favourable for major technical textile markets - if only anyone quite knew how to get in.
