Oerlikon Neumag, part of the Oerlikon Manmade FIbers segment, has received an order for a bicomponent staple fibre plant from a long-time regular customer in Italy. The order comprises of a plant for the production of sheath/core fibres made of polyester, polypropylene and polyethylene. Commissioning is scheduled for the second half of 2017.

“The investment is being made in the scope of a planned extension of our customer’s staple fibre production capacities,” explained Gerrit van Loenen, the staple fibre sales director responsible for this project. “As a total solution provider, we were able to convince our customer with our technology.”

 Bicomponent spinning

Oerlikon Neumag has several years of experience in building bicomponent staple fibre plants. The first plant for this type of fibre was already put into operation in 1995. Oerlikon Neumag offers solutions for various fibre cross-sections including “sheath/core”, “side-by-side”, “island in the sea” as well as “orange type” and “trilobal”. The applications are manifold, covering self-crimping fibres, binding fibres, as well as super-micro fibres and hollow fibres.

According to the manufacturer, the Oerlikon Neumag bicomponent staple fibre technology is characterized by very robust nozzle packages, which do not have any expensive wearing parts, which in turn is said to significantly reduce costs in this sector.

The processing costs when cleaning the nozzle packages are kept to a minimum, the company reports. In addition, there is also the possibility of a separate temperature control in the spinning beam for the two polymers. The quality and viscosity of the polymers can thus be adapted exactly according to process requirements.

Oerlikon Manmade Fibers

With its Oerlikon Barmag and Oerlikon Neumag brands, Oerlikon Manmade Fibers segment is the market leader in manmade fibre filament spinning systems, texturing machines, BCF systems, staple fibre systems, nonwovens and artificial turf systems and – as a service provider – offers engineering solutions for the entire textile value added chain.

The primary Oerlikon Neumag markets are in the USA, Turkey and China. Oerlikon Barmag and Oerlikon Neumag – with just under 2,500 employees – have presence in 120 countries as part of the Oerlikon Manmade Fibers network of production, sales and distribution and service organizations.
