CCM Hockey and Sigmatex have announced their partnership on CCM’s line of premium hockey sticks for 2017. The upcoming product line will incorporate Sigmatex’s sigmaST fabric, and is driven by weight reduction and strength objectives.

This collaboration reinforces CCM’s commitment to ongoing research and development within the hockey industry, the company reports.

Hockey equipment

Reebok-CCM Hockey, a subsidiary of the adidas Group, is headquartered in Montreal. With operations in Canada, the US and Europe, the company is the designer, manufacturer and marketer of hockey equipment and related apparel under two of the most recognized hockey brand names: Reebok Hockey and CCM Hockey.

Reebok-CCM Hockey equips professional hockey players, including superstars like Sidney Crosby, Connor McDavid and John Tavares. Reebok-CCM Hockey is also the official outfitter of the National Hockey League, the American Hockey League, the Canadian Hockey League, and several NCAA and national teams.

sigmaST fabric

The range utilises Sigmatex’s sigmaST fabric, which is said to be 20% lighter than traditional carbon fibre fabrics and has an excellent strength to weight ratio, according to the manufacturer.

This technology is well suited for sporting applications, and it can be particularly useful in the hockey industry that demands a light weight stick which maintains durability and has a high impact tolerance. According to the company, in addition to performance characteristics, with its sleek checkerboard finish, sigmaST gives the hockey sticks a unique shelf appeal.

Strength and performance

“Using sigmaST has empowered us to produce a lighter stick which still maintains the overall strength and performance required,” said the CCM Hockey spokesperson.

“We chose to work with Sigmatex because of their proven capability in the sports and leisure sector to create innovative composite solutions. We have been able to build hockey sticks which outperform their predecessors not just from a weight perspective, but also in terms of strength and durability.”

The sticks will be distributed globally and exploited in professional leagues across the world including the National, American, Canadian and Swedish hockey leagues.
