Invista’s Cordura brand has announced that the Durable Design Achievement Award has been presented to Manhattan Portage at the 2016 Outdoor Retailer Winter Market Show that took place in Salt Lake City, UT, last month.

The award recognizes a company or person’s commitment to crafting high performance gear or garments that utilize Cordura fabric in the product design. The latest collection from Manhattan Portage featuring Cordura fabrics was on display at the Cordura Brand booth at the leading sportswear trade show from 7-9 January.

Dedication to innovation

“Manhattan Portage’s long-term dedication to innovation exists harmoniously with the values of Cordura fabric’s heritage,” commented Cindy McNaull, Cordura fabric global brand and marketing director.

“We are honoured to celebrate our long-standing relationship with Manhattan Portage, and our appreciation for their dedication to durable innovation as we continue to pioneer our future together for the urban commuters of today and the style-setters of tomorrow.”

Long-lasting collaboration

The legendary messenger bag brand, Manhattan Portage, was one of the first brands to use nylon Cordura fabrics in the company’s messenger bags. For the last 30 years, the two companies have worked together on numerous projects, creating stylish urban commuter bags.

The latest collaboration, Bags to the Future, pays homage to the 1980’s and holds value for both brands in several ways. Not only is the 80’s inspired collection based on original Manhattan Portage pieces from that era, the brand’s messenger bag expertise combined with legendary Cordura fabric durability bring together 80 years of innovation to on-the-go gear, the company reports.

“It’s an honour to receive Cordura brand’s Durable Design Achievement award,” said Su Hwei, CEO of Manhattan Portage. “For more than 30 years Cordura fabric has understood our philosophy of New York Tough, and helped us bring that to the world; now, we look back at where we have been, and what we have planned for the future and look forward to Cordura brand fabrics being a dedicated part of our journey.”
