The Teijin Group is providing its chemically recycled polyester fibre, Eco Circle Fibres, for the production of uniforms worn by players in the China Basketball Association (CBA).

The uniforms, made by Li Ning, a major Chinese manufacturer of sports apparel, have been worn by CBA teams since the season opened on 8 November.

Eco Circle Fibres

The Eco Circle Fibres are being sold through Zhejiang Jiaren New Material, a joint venture between Teijin and Jinggong Holding Group.

The JV, which is based in Shaoxing along China’s central East coast, handles the chemical recycling of polyester products and polyester fibres. Eco Circle Fibres also will be used in any CBA uniforms that are marketed commercially.

Recycling uniform

After use, the uniforms can be recycled into polyester fibre of the same quality as conventional fibre by using Teijin’s Eco Circle closed-loop system for the chemical recycling of polyester, the company reports. The recycling will be carried out at a chemical recycling plant that Zhejiang Jiaren New Material will start operating in May 2014.

The Teijin Group and Li Ning have been collaborating in Eco Circle undertakings since 2009. The recent provision of Eco Circle Fibres for CBA uniforms is the latest initiative. Both parties intend to continue strengthening their partnership to support expanding recycling activities in China.
