The Wetsleeve, a patented lightweight hydration solution worn on the forearm, which launched on Kickstarter in June, has surpassed its goal on Kickstarter with 516% and over 2,100 backers on board in the first 30 days of the campaign.

“The product, which is designed to make hydration effortless as users can drink from the wrist without breaking their athletic momentum, has proven a success on the crowdfunding platform with backers supporting the project and pre-ordering from around the world,” the start-up reports. “Comments have been exceedingly positive from the athletes, outdoor enthusiasts, marathon runners and exercise enthusiasts of all calibers in the Kickstarter community, who look forward to trying the Wetsleeve for themselves.”

With manufacturing and quality control phase planned for August, the company now expects to begin shipping to project backers by October 2017.

Positive response

After passing the initial goal of US$ 25,000, the buzz has built, and backers brought the project past the 100K mark on 29 June. Currently at over US$ 146,606 in pledges, the Wetsleeve has certainly awaken the curiosity of many exercise fans who are looking for an alternative to having to carry around bottles or wear hydration packs while on the move.

“We’re thrilled with the response,” said co-founder David Herring. “As a group of friends and exercise nuts who love being outdoors – we developed the Wetsleeve to be something we would actually use ourselves. To see that the Kickstarter community is excited about the product too is amazing, and we can’t wait for people to get to use it themselves.”

Wetsleeve has partnered with the award-winning design firm Development Never Stops (DNS). Together, the two teams have worked closely with athletes in usability and testing to ensure Wetsleeve’s performance and durability under a wide range of conditions, activities and terrains. “After three generations of prototypes, countless iterations and meticulously chosen premium materials, Wetsleeve has secured top notch reputable manufacturers and is ready for large scale production,” the company announces.

Detachable hydration reservoir

Wetsleeve’s detachable hydration reservoir is durable, leak proof and made of FDA-approved food grade materials. With a volume capacity of 12 oz (350ml), it can be easily filled with water or any other sports drink. The replaceable silicone mouthpiece situated towards the wrist allows the wearer to effortlessly drink from a natural position. The zip seal flap and roll-top opening is also designed to allow for quick and easy refills and ensures no leakage.

A built-in spine is said to ensure the reservoir maintains its shape and keeps the liquid distributed across the forearm at all times- even during the most rigorous activities. After each sip, the reservoir continuously compresses to prevent the liquid from sloshing around during use, the company explains.

The Wetsleeve is available in three sizes (S, M, L), and is suitable for virtually all sports and activities, such as running and hiking. The materials are breathable, soft, water resistant, and gentle on the skin to ensure optimal comfort, according to the manufacturer. Two pockets for carrying personal belongings like cards, keys or headphones are integrated into the sleeve.
