Heat management technology from Outlast

Outlast Technologies, market leader for temperature regulating phase change materials (PCMs), enlarges its product range with climate regulating fibre balls, which can be used in bedding. Outlast Technologies, market leader for temperature regulating phase change materials (PCMs), enlarges its product range with climate regulating fibre balls, which can be used in bedding.

The PCM fibre balls based on polyester are said to offer a new possibility to balance temperature in duvets or pillows and to reduce humidity significantly while sleeping.

PCM filling material

The new PCM fibrefill manages the climate inside the bed proactively and reduces sweat production right from the beginning, so less humidity is created inside the bed which leads to more comfort and a better night’s rest, the company reports.

The new PCM filling material is suited for bedding products with synthetic fillings. The fibre balls are very cuddly and soft and easy to handle. Outlast offers manufacturers a new option also to work with other filling systems.

Outlast technology

Outlast technology was originally developed for NASA to protect astronauts from temperature fluctuations in space. Outlast technology utilises phase change materials that absorb, store and release heat for optimal thermal comfort.

Outlast technology is comparable to ice in a drink; as it changes from solid to liquid, it absorbs heat and cools the drink, keeping that drink at the desired temperature for a longer period of time.

The PCMs have the capacity to absorb, store and release excess heat. This gives any product containing Outlast technology the ability to continually regulate skin’s microclimate. As the skin gets hot, the heat is absorbed, and as it cools, that heat is released.

Effective heat management

Outlast technology is said to proactively manage heat while controlling the production of moisture before it begins.

According to the company, Outlast products can absorb excess body heat, manage moisture, reduce overheating or chilling, reduce perspiration and continuously adapt to thermal changes.
