Delegates at the GOCarbonFibre conference that will be held from 8-10 October in Cologne, Germany, will be able to take part in a site visit at the Institut für Textiltechnik, RWTH Aachen University (ITA), Europe’s leading textile and composites research institution, where visitors can see the complete textile process chain from the raw material to the textile semi-finished products and components.

The Institut für Textiltechnik is one of the top five institutes belonging to the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at the elite university RWTH Aachen. The focus of the research undertaken at the ITA is on the development of new textile machines and processes.

Research areas

GOCarbonFibre delegates will be given a full tour of the facility at the Institut für Textiltechnik with the opportunity to view the complete production process in operation.

The researchers will also be on hand to provide insight to the current research programmes taking place.

Man made fibres

In the department of man made fibres, fibre based materials with improved tribological characteristics and a reduced wear by the application/input of Nano particles, are developed at the ITA.

Composites

In the department of composites, production technologies for reinforcing textiles and their further processing into textile preforms are developed and examined at the ITA.

This includes the production of multiaxial layer and non-crimp fabrics, braids as well as the automation of the preforms' manufacturing.

Textile machinery

The department of textile machinery is engaged in the textile process chain including staple fibre processing, yarn and fabric manufacturing (weaving, knitting, warp-knitting, nonwovens) and joining processes.

The research focuses on the development of intelligent machines, the processing of new fibre materials, adaptive textile processing and resource efficiency.
