The PCI Fibres Conference 2015 will take place from 10-11 November at The Hotel Marriott, Milan, Italy, right before events like ITMA 2015 and the World Textile Summit, which are also held in Milan.

The conference will look at prospects for raw materials, fibres and textiles in the context of sustainability challenges, global health issues, and lifestyle and demographic changes. These factors carry implications for the mix of fibres, the manufacturing locations of supply chains, and the production systems that are used.

The PCI Fibres Conference presentations will define the quantitative response in terms of fibre demand numerics, but will also look at the crucial issue of how to recover value, perhaps the most pressing requirement throughout the industry.

Rebalance and recovery

Global fibre and textile supply chains have endured a chaotic and unpredictable 2-3 years. During this period raw material prices have soared and crashed, heavy investment in China and volatility in exchange rates have reconfigured supply chains and trade patterns and overcapacity at all levels has become a major threat to the financial stability of large parts of the industry.

But 2015 looks set to be the change-year, which begins to point toward rebalance and recovery, according to PCI Fibres, a specialist consultancy in fibres and textiles markets.

This can slowly be achieved by waiting for supply / demand balances to restore the situation, or it can be accelerated by directly addressing some of the complex challenges that global consumers are presenting the industry at every level of activity, the company reports.

Conference presentations

The conference kicks off with the key speaker, Giulio Bonazzi, Chairman and CEO at Aquafil Group, presenting on a topic Taking business to the next level with sustainability and performance.

Other presentations given by PCI consultants and guest speakers will include topics like:

  • Why do people want your fibre?
  • Fibres in automotive textile: evolution or revolution?
  • 2015: A difficult year for PET recyclers
  • India: the next frontier for the textiles and apparel industry
  • How long will low energy prices last?
  • Polyamide: time to fall in love with fibres again?
