Milliken’s table linen business is now adapting its successful Signature range of table linen to a phased transition towards verifiably recycled polyester yarns.

The company is cooperating with the American fibre manufacturer Unifi during this process. The firm's Repreve yarns have been awarded the ‘SCS Certified Responsible Source’ seal of approval for providing a transparent delivery and manufacturing chain.

The partnership of these two businesses, both committed to sustainability, is reflected in the name of the new line of table linen – SignatureRepreve.

Commitment to sustainability

By combining science with design and insights, Milliken is aimed at tackling the issues and concerns of today with a focus on sustainability, the central point of the company’s corporate philosophy. According to the company, it has dedicated to do so through ethically, socially and ecologically justifiable economic activity.

This commitment can also be seen through its intensive recycling initiatives. With the utilisation of yarns made from recycled polyester, the re-use of recyclable materials is now entering its next phase at Milliken. The Signature range of table linen is undergoing a phased switchover to weft yarns that form part of the Repreve (Unifi) brand of recycled fibres.

Recycled yarn

Repreve from Unifi is a high-grade recycled polyester fibre. It is manufactured using polyethylene terephthalate (PET) from used plastic bottles and post-industrial recycled materials. The procurement chain is transparent from the waste product right through to the yarn. This is confirmed by the ‘SCS Certified Responsible Source’ seal of approval.

Full traceability permits the manufacturing of a high-grade fibre material of a consistent quality that forms the prerequisite for smooth process sequences during all stages of manufacturing and within the context of textile rental services.

Co-operation

“Sustainable products need to be credible and of high quality and value. In line with our philosophy, only a supplier with a pronounced sense of ethical and ecological responsibility and who demands a high standard of quality would ever be considered. In Unifi we have found the right partner within the area of recycled polyester yarns,” commented Stefan Bange, Sales Director for Europe at Milliken.

Jay Hertwig, Vice President, Global Branding at Unifi said: “Unifi is proud to have Milliken’s Signature Plus as the first-ever Repreve branded napery in the European market. As Unifi continues to focus on expanding Repreve into new product categories, this marks another important step toward achieving awareness and adoption of the brand on a global scale.”
