Schoeller Textil AG has appointed Stefano Tonizzo as head of its knitted textiles business - Business Unit Knits. Tonizzo is said to possess a comprehensive knowledge of knitted textiles thanks to many years working at Greuter Jersey AG. Since September 2010, he has been working in sales at Schoeller Textil.

The newly-established business unit for knitted textiles encompasses all areas relating to knits for the sports sector and aims to strengthen the strategic orientation of knitted products in Schoeller Textil’s portfolio.

In June 2012 Schoeller Textil acquired the sports/professional sports and technical textiles business of the Eschler Group when two of the strongest and most innovative textile and technology companies in the stretch knits and wovens sectors joined forces.  Schoeller Textil from Sevelen (St. Gallen) and the Eschler Group from Bühler (Appenzell Ausserrhoden) united under the banner of Swiss quality, global presence and wide ranging know-how.

The companies said in a statement at the time that the cooperation of the two traditional Swiss companies under the management of Schoeller Textil AG would make it possible to place the product range on an even broader footing in the market. The synergy of woven and knitted fabrics was to be exploited to create a range that was thought to be the only one of its kind in the textile sector.

Franz Albers, President of the Board of Administration of Schoeller Textil AG, commented on the merger at the time:  “I am particularly pleased about this collaboration. It is the coming together of two companies, each of which is among the world-wide market leaders in its own segment and ideally complements one another.”

The function of the new Schoeller Textil knits unit includes responsibility for product development and sales. In addition to the popular sports segments, the highly-technical and innovative knit products are also used in professional sports in the cycling and winter sports sectors. For example, in selecting their world cup wear, numerous national winter sports teams place their faith in Eschler, Schoeller brand knit products.
