Laboratory workJeffrey M. Koslosky, Director of Technology and Product Development with Secant Medical, an industry leader in design, development, and custom manufacturing services for implantable biomedical textiles, will be a key speaker at two of the symposium sessions on February 8th and 10th, 2011, during the Medical Design & Manufacturing (MD&M) West Conference in Anaheim, CA.

At the first session, ‘Materials for Implants and Other Demanding Biomedical Applications’, Koslosky will focus on the various methods and unique materials used to create biomedical textiles for medical devices.

He will address the wide range of textile structures (the order and orientation of polymeric and metallic filaments in a structure, versatility and variability of properties and performance characteristics, physical and mechanical properties, etc.) and how their distinct fabric geometries result in unique form and function capabilities to enable design.

Two days later, Koslosky will present information on the use of absorbable polymers in biomedical textiles during ‘Developing Resorbable Implants: an Industry Perspective’.  His comments will cover the types of absorbable polymers in implantable textiles engineered for a variety of medical devices and therapies.

The overview will highlight the range of available textile structures, forming technologies used to create them, versatility and variability of their properties, and extensive performance characteristics.  In addition, the presentation will address the potential for future medical devices that use a combination of resorbable and non-resorbable polymers for creating fibrous scaffolds and hybrid properties in a device.

“The MDM Conference provides an excellent opportunity to highlight the versatility and physical properties of biomedical textiles, enabling device designers to expand their component design toolbox,” says Koslosky.

MD&M West is the industry’s premier resource for project acceleration.  This year’s conference will provide a unique combination of presentations from high-level medical device industry professionals, the FDA, and leading industry experts.

In addition, the exposition provides medical technology professionals with hands-on access to more than 3,000 world-class suppliers of the latest in manufacturing equipment and outsourcing services, medical-grade materials, assembly components and tools, electronics, design and engineering support, and a full range of services for every aspect of the medical product development process from initial start-up and R&D through end-product marketing.
