Interface, Inc. announced today that the company has received two Good Design awards for excellence in both its commercial and residential product lines: InterfaceFLOR's World Textiles Collection originating from the company's European region and FLOR's Reoriented floor covering solution produced in the United States.

Both products are said to showcase how the company is creating designs that are set apart in their markets by cultural and geographic inspiration, outstanding performance and sustainability-related design principles.

Presented by The Chicago Athenaeum Museum of Architecture and Design together with the European Centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies, Good Design is self-described as the oldest and world's most recognized program for international design excellence.

Good Design

"Good Design is one of the most established programs honouring design excellence worldwide and it is an exciting achievement to receive such recognition for both the company's commercial and residential product lines," said Dan Hendrix, chairman, president and CEO of Interface, Inc.

"We strive to offer design that combines beauty and performance, all in keeping with our sustainability goals."

The World Textiles Collection, manufactured for commercial and institutional markets under the InterfaceFLOR brand, depicts the look and feel of many countries and cultures, including Latin America to Saharan Africa and a variety of locations in between. Created for residential markets by the company's consumer brand FLOR, Reoriented fuses East with West by blending the classic look of a timeless Oriental rug with a unique patchwork design in over-dyed colours for a fresh, modern approach.

"This year's Good Design program bestowed the coveted Good Design Award to the most important and influential industrial and graphic designers in the world," stated Christian K Narkiewicz-Laine, museum president, The Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design and chief curator of the Good Design program.

"This is the singular, international design awards program the entire design and corporate world waits for each year."

The sophisticated designs of the World Textiles Collection and Reoriented are said to integrate cross-cultural inspiration with sustainability. Careful attention to the environmental impacts of the materials and processes used throughout product development adds another dimension to their design and supports Mission Zero, Interface's promise to eliminate any negative impact its companies may have on the environment by 2020.

Founded in 1950 in Chicago, Good Design bestows international recognition upon the world's most prominent designers and manufacturers for advancing new, visionary, and innovative product concepts, invention and originality, and for stretching the envelope beyond what is considered ordinary product and consumer design.
