The Switzerland based International Textile Manufacturers Federation (ITMF) has published its State of Trade Report for the 4th Quarter of 2011. The organisation reports that estimates for Global Yarn and Fabric Output in Q1/2012 are negative but that the outlook for Q2/2012 is positive.

After a sharp reduction in global shipments of new textile machinery in 2008 and 2009, as a result of the global financial and economic crisis in 2008/2009, deliveries of new textile machinery surged in 2010 and even stronger in 2011, in most cases to new record highs.

Teijin has announced plans to establish Teijin Product Development China Co., Ltd. in August this year to conduct fibre and textile product research and development in Nantong, Jiangsu Province commencing April 2013. The move will enhance the Teijin group’s R&D functions in China and enable collaborative development with local partners to respond quickly to business opportunities in the fast-growing market.

ACIMIT, the Association of Italian Textile Machinery Manufacturers, is organizing two important workshops in Mumbai and Ichalkaranji, India, in order to respond to strong demand for Italian technology from the local textiles industry.

The current challenges in the economic climate do not seem to have adversely affected demand for space at the third ITMA ASIA + CITME exhibition and due to the overwhelming response, the show owners say they have now booked the remaining available space at the Shanghai New International Expo Centre (SNIEC).

Karl Mayer Malimo has a new business manager as of 1st April. The new man at the helm of the 100% Karl Mayer owned subsidiary, and hence the technical textiles business sector, is Jochen Schmidt, a 42-year-old who has risen through the ranks after ten years at the German company.
