ATCC, the American Association of Textile Chemists and Colourists, will be focusing on two main topics – filtration and UV protective clothing – during its April series of webinars.

Filtration

Seshadri Ramkumar, Professor of Technical Textiles at Texas Tech University, will be presenting Filtration by Fibrous Materials webinar on 23 April. The webinar will cover the basic principles behind filtration and types of filtration, such as air and liquid.

Recent advances in the field of filtration using nano, sub-micron, and micro-filters will be discussed as well as commonly used testing methods and instrumentation.

Dr Ramkumar directs the Nonwoven and Advanced Materials Laboratory at Texas Tech and his research focuses on developing value-added materials using nonwoven and nanotechnology.

UV protective clothing

On April 30 Louann Spirito, Director of Technical Support, Softlines at SGS Consumer Testing Services, will present UV Protective Clothing – Best Practices.  This webinar will provide a general background on UPF and why its importance is increasing globally.

Spirito will review test methods used to determine UPF value, as well as sample preparation and labeling; factors affecting UPF performance; industry best practices; and performance claims.

Louann Spirito develops testing programmes, performance specifications and provides regulatory testing guidance to global US clients.
