German Nonwovens producer Sandler AG is making good progress in the construction of its new 20,000 square metre facility which will house an additional spunlace line for the production of new generation wipes and technical nonwovens. The new line, which is to be commissioned in autumn this year, will create 60 jobs within the next two years and will start production during the first quarter of 2011.

“With this investment, Sandler AG will become the largest manufacturing site for wipes substrates. Even today, the company is among the largest nonwovens producers worldwide and ranks 13th internationally when it comes to turnover. Sandler AG is today the only family-owned nonwovens manufacturer in Europe,” a spokesperson for Sandler said.

In spring 2009 Sandler AG’s management board decided to pull forward the 40 million Euro project which had originally been scheduled for 2011. Construction of the 150m long, 70m wide and 20m high two storey building necessitated further building projects including on site roads, bridges and parking areas.

Contrary to the sector trend to establish new production sites worldwide, Sandler’s management considered the pooling of technologies and know-how in one location to be valuable factors in favour of its home town of Schwarzenbach. Remaining true to its origins, the company therefore decided to expand its company location in Schwarzenbach/Saale to become one of the largest production sites for nonwovens worldwide by the end of 2010.
