Key achievements to date

Since its launch at Expofil in February 2011, Newlife’s first year has been distinguished by a number of key achievements in the apparel industry, a testament to its versatility in different applications.

Today, over 50 international textile partners have worked with the Newlife fibres across product categories and applications including, fashion, home textiles, sportswear, and work and protective garments.

In the fashion world, Newlife has been seen at the Golden Globes Awards in January 2011, when Giorgio Armani used it to create a stunning gown wore by Livia Firth, Creative Director of eco-age.com and founder of the Green Carpet Challenge.

A few weeks later, during Paris Haute Couture, Giorgio Armani created another beautiful cocktail gown for her to wear during his presentation on January 24th. Newlife has also been selected by the Liquigas – Cannondale Pro cycling team 2012 Target - a top five ranked team worldwide captained by Ivan Basso (Target: Giro d’Italia) and Vincenzo Nibali (Target : Tour de France) for its pre and after race performance athlete Newlife™ sock range Riattiva.

In September 2011 Newlife presented its new campaign ‘Newlife the premium fibre with a sustainable identity’ aimed at clearly informing consumer and businesses alike on the technical and sustainable performance of Newlife-made materials and streamlining the brand’s communication to better assist industry decision-makers in selecting innovative materials for their products.

2012 calendar

Following the Première Vision celebrations for its first birthday, Newlife is lining up its 2012 calendar with a series of events and activities.

Dr. Stefano Cochis will attend Rethinking Fashion: Design Responsibility in New York on 21 February, to present Newlife as a best practice case for sustainable production for the fashion industry.

As a C.L.A.S.S. partner, Newlife has also been selected to participate at the Copenhagen Fashion Summit 2012 as a materials partner for selected brands and retailers from the participating NICE (Nordic Initiative Clean and Ethical).

Certification

Newlife is the product of an ambitious project developed by Filature Miroglio. It is said to be a unique, complete and certified* system of recycled polyester filament yarns coming 100% from postconsumer bottles sourced, processed into a polymer through a mechanical, not chemical, process and spun into yarn entirely in Italy, thanks to an exclusive horizontal partnership agreement.

“The consolidated know-how of Filature Miroglio combined with its ceaseless research towards innovation and the complete and patented process behind this 100% Made in Italy project, make Newlife an incredibly flexible platform,” the company says.

A vast number of applications and high performance yarns with levels of quality equal to virgin polyester equivalents are said to be possible, demonstrating the added benefit of considerable resource and cost savings for the environment.

End-uses include: fashion, sportswear, underwear, technical clothing, workwear, medical garments, outdoor clothes, furnishings, accident prevention textiles. Newlife also offers a full branding and communication package for its partners.

*Newlife™ is currently certified by GRS (Global Recycle Standards by Textile Exchange), PSV Certification (Second Life Plastic) by IPPR (Ricycled Plastic Promotion Institute) and Oeko-tex.
