Japanese high performance fibres supplier Teijin will be exhibiting at Techtextil India, the international trade fair for technical textiles and nonwovens, which is being held at the Bombay Exhibition Centre in Mumbai, India next week (10-12 October).

Teijin will present high-performance solutions incorporating aramid, carbon and polyester fibres for diverse applications, including protective, energy-saving and environmental fields. Exhibits will include:

Twaron, Technora, Teijinconex and Sulfron aramid fibres

Twaron para-aramid fibre is used in India for armour, including vests, helmets and lightweight vehicles. It is also being used increasingly in reinforced automotive hoses for enhanced performance and asbestos-free brake pads that meet global environmental standards.

Twaron provides optical fibre cables with greater strength, and is also used in protective gloves worn by millions of workers in India. According to Teijin, Technora is finding a growing range of applications in Indian engineering plastics thanks to superior abrasion resistance.

Sulfron aims to lower the rolling resistance of automotive tires for greater durability and improved fuel efficiency without compromising performance. Fire-resistant, flame-retardant Teijinconex is said to be an excellent choice for protective clothing worn by fire fighters and factory workers.

Tenax carbon fibres

Toho Tenax Co., Ltd., the core company of the Teijin Group's carbon fibres business and the world's second-largest carbon-fiber producer, is expanding research, production and sales of Tenax carbon fibre on a global basis, with a key focus on the Indian market.

"Lightweight carbon fibres are one-quarter the weight of steel, yet boast excellent tensile strength and modulus nearly ten times greater than steel. Demand for carbon fibres is broadly diversifying due to needs for lightweight, energy-efficient and green materials," Teijin said.

Tenax is used in the Airbus A380 and numerous other applications, including wind-generator blades, pressure vessels, aerospace equipment, robots, automobiles, golf-club shafts, fishing rods, tennis racquets and yacht bodies. Teijin is also developing new applications suited to Indian needs in automotives and other fields.

Polyester fibres

Teijin's high-performance polyester is widely used in automotive interiors for seat, ceiling and flooring materials. "An exhibit of a railcar seat will present ELK, a high-performance polyester cushioning material that is lightweight, durable and breathable, and does not yellow easily or generate cyanogen gas when incinerated," the company said.

"India, one of Teijin's most important long-term growth markets, is introducing higher standards of protection for soldiers, policemen, fire fighters and workers. The country is also positioned to become the world's third-largest automotive market by 2020, and enormous infrastructure projects are ongoing. Amid these trends, Teijin is delighted to be sharing its knowledge and expertise with partners and customers in an expanding range of applications," said Takaya Miyano, Managing Director of Teijin India Private Limited.

"Since establishing an office in New Delhi in 2007, the Teijin Group has been proactively developing its local markets for automotive/railcar weight reduction, electronics, infrastructure, new energy and healthcare."

"Teijin has expanded its presence in India by opening a new branch in Pune this year," said Kees Meyberg, Managing Director of Teijin Aramid. "This new branch is fully focused on bringing aramid, particularly Twaron, closer to customers."
