Cobra Puma Golf develops new driver reinforced with TeXtreme

For golfers, the company reports, it means more distance through higher launch, less spin and more ball speed.

Cobra Puma Golf, a corporate division of Puma SE, has used TeXtreme Spread Tow reinforcement technology by Oxeon to produce new driver Cobra King. The product was developed through a relationship with CASIS (Center for Advancement of Science in Space).

“Reducing weight while maintaining strength in very specific areas is critical to the performance of the King Ltd driver,” said Mike Yagley, Director Innovation & Research –Cobra Golf. “Using TeXtreme in the crown reduced its total weight by 20%, which a significant amount of weight that has been relocated to make the club head much more efficient at impact.”

Lighter and stronger crown

To make the crown lighter Cobra Golf added TeXtreme, which is said to allow for more weight to be repositioned. By making a lighter, stronger crown that reduces the weight so it can be redistributed to the correct areas of the club head will make it deliver better mass properties, according to the manufacturer.

TeXtreme is based on using Spread Tows instead of yarns to achieve materials that are used to produce ultra light weight and high-performance composite products. Companies utilizing the TeXtreme technology are said to achieve better properties on weight, stiffness, strength, etc. compared to those using other conventional carbon fibre materials.

Many sports have seen the use of TeXtreme make an immediate and dominant impact on performance, among others, Formula 1 racing, Americas Cup, NASCAR, Le Mans, ice hockey, bicycles, tennis and surf boards.
