Germany based ContiTech, a leading innovator and technological pioneer for rubber and plastic products, is presenting its new dry suit material, as well as the wide variety of possible uses for technical textiles at the Techtextil trade fair that I taking place in Frankfurt this week.

A new dry suit fabric developed by ContiTech is said to offer maximum protection and the greatest possible level of safety in and under water. At the same time, the coated fabric offers maximum wear comfort, as it is extremely lightweight and pleasingly flexible, the company reports.

“Thanks to our expertise and many years of experience, we have successfully developed in close collaboration with Kallweit – a leading dry suit company – a product that will allow us to expand our range to include protective suits designed for water,” explained Rodrigo Maia, Head of Engineered Coated Systems segment at ContiTech Elastomer Coatings.

Material for rigid-inflatable boats

ContiTech also presents a new material for rigid-inflatable boats at Techtextil for the first time. “As a well-known supplier in the field of high-performance materials for recreational and working boats, we want to expand our product range to include a coated fabric for rigid-inflatable boats,” said Rodrigo Maia.

ContiTech's new material for rigid-inflatable boats (RIBs) can be used in the most arduous conditions thanks to their outstanding properties. Rigid-inflatable boats are used by rescue services, the police, and fire brigades, for example, and must be suitable for deployment in extreme conditions. The material is said to be extremely durable, tear-proof, weather, UV, and sea-water resistant, and offer a high degree of dimensional stability.

The special outer coating consists of highly wear-resistant, weatherproof chlorosulfonated polyethylene (CSM). A carrier made from high-strength, high-tenacity polyester ensures good structural strength, according to the manufacturer. The inner coating is chloroprene rubber (CR) for good bonding capacity.

Shoe fabric

The company also presents the new shoe fabric Ceraprene at Techtextil. “The excellent material properties set the fabric apart from other materials,” said Rodrigo Maia. Thanks to its high resistance, Ceraprene is suitable for safety shoes, trekking shoes used in demanding terrain, sports shoes for soccer or tennis matches, and sturdy casual shoes.

Ceraprene is made from highly resistant rubber compounds that are water-repellent and optionally also waterproof. The elastomer textile is only coated on hydrophobic nonwoven fabric. This means that the nonwoven fabric is water-resistant and cannot get soaked through, the company reports.

Benecke-Kaliko

The ContiTech business unit is exhibiting its new product and service offering. “We are doing this to show our customers that, in addition to a wide product range of high-quality automotive interior materials, we also have a very great deal to offer many other sectors,” explained Dr Claus Zürbig, Managing Director at Benecke-Kaliko.

Benecke-Kaliko has bolstered its diversified business by acquiring plants in Pamplona, Spain and WÄ…growiec, Poland from the Belgian Mecaseat Group. The new locations offer a broad range of products that extend across nine industry sectors.

Some of the highlights of the company’s Dynactiv portfolio are the Dynactiv Power series surfaces for self-sufficient water and power supply in arid regions. These materials with their integral solar modules are said to be highly sustainable and are landmark products for countries with long periods of drought. The light-impermeable film completely covers large water surfaces and reliably protects the reservoirs against dirt and evaporation. Up to 40% more water is retained as a result, which can then be used to irrigate arable land, the company reports.
