Struktur Event, the conference that brings together product and industrial designers in the outdoor and active lifestyle categories, has announced its speaker and workshop line-up for this year’s edition. This year, the fourth annual conference will be held from 25-27 April, in a new space, the light‐filled and spacious Leftbank Annex in Portland, Oregon’s Central Eastside, organisers report.
Notable speakers include three keynotes, Jan Chipchase, of Studio D, research design and strategy consultancy specialising in clients with a global outlook; Michael DiTullo, of Sound United, an audio experience company; and Amy Ross, a space suit engineer at NASA.
The event’s speaker line-up also includes notable designers from Arc’teryx, Rapha, Biolite, Woolrich, and The North Face, along with experts touching upon topics, such as design consulting, prototyping, sustainability, design for sport performance, and more.
Hands‐on workshops, a growing part of the Struktur Event this year, will include activities like presentation skills for designers, futurecasting, basics of fit, sketching skills, information on the future of wool, colours and trends, and more.
“This year’s event is about preparing designers and their companies for success in the set of possible futures now before us. We’re all faced with serious challenges on every scale, and the line-up we’ve assembled represents viewpoints, skills, and methods we’ll need to expand into the largest solution space possible,” commented Sam Ward, Struktur Event’s co‐founder.
“I’m really excited about growing the next generation of design leadership because this industry is poised to change how we all expect our products to perform. This event, which we anticipate to be our most well attended yet, will be better than before because we’re growing a passionate, talented, and successful design community.”
Founded by design industry veterans Michelle Rose and Sam Ward, Struktur is a creative conference for the active outdoor design industry. Rose and Ward launched the event to support and nurture the talented community of designers working at the intersection of creativity, business and entrepreneurship.
Now in its fourth year, Struktur takes the profession f outdoor design beyond the usual focus of trends, features and function in to the realm of education, leadership and storytelling, organisers explain.
