An industrial accident that happened in August at Zhongrong Metal Production Company, an automotive parts factory located in Kunshan, Jiangsu, China, may result in the growth of the dust removing fabric market in China.

The explosion that killed 75 workers and injured over 180 others was caused by various factors, including the non existence of independent dust collecting devices for each of operation positions at the factory, despite safety code requirements.

Safety requirements

Also, the electrical equipment at the factory had not been fitted with explosion-proof mechanics as specification required, so when the dust concentration exceeded the standard, it exploded when there was a spark of fire.

It is understood that as early as the end of May 2011 the Chinese state production safety supervision administration required the industries to carry out special inspections of projects’ dust operation safety as soon as possible.

The Kunshan Zhongrong explosion that attracted national attention may now lead to more stringent safety requirements controlling dust production at the enterprises.

Dust removal industry market

“The Kunshan explosion accident has flagged a warning to the regulative bodies,” said Yang Xianghong, Chairman of the Chinese State Production Safety Supervision Administration. “Under the background of that the Chinese environmental protection to the industrial enterprises has become more and more important, the dust supervision will become more strictly.

“This will promote the development of dust cloth industry. Within a maximum of five years, the dust removal industry market can reach 100 billion Yuan level.”

Emission standard

In the last two years, the emission standard on the air pollutants for iron and steel, cement, and thermal power industries have been raised.

However, the smoke dust emission standards for the industries such as coking, electrolytic aluminium, alumina, iron alloy, carbon materials, ceramics and others are still lower than that of the present European and US standards. In the future, there are expected to be more stringent emission standards for the related industries.
