As a symbol of its #TurnItGreen campaign, the Repreve brand of recycled fibres has turned the SuperPipe green during the Women's SuperPipe Finals at X Games Aspen.

Thousands of lime green Repreve beanies were distributed to X Games fans along the SuperPipe, each made with six recycled plastic bottles.

Raising awareness

With less than 30% of plastic bottles recycled in the US, the goal of the #TurnItGreen initiative is to educate and create change, as well as encourage people to get involved and recycle.

“Our goal is to educate and create change through the #TurnItGreen campaign. Once consumers recognise that every bottle recycled can help turn everyday things greener, we believe they will realise the difference they can make and become more emotionally invested in recycling,” said Roger Berrier, President and Chief Operating Officer of Unifi.

Recycled yarn

Repreve from Unifi is a high-grade recycled polyester fibre. It is manufactured using polyethylene terephthalate (PET) from used plastic bottles and post-industrial recycled materials. The procurement chain is transparent from the waste product right through to the yarn. This is confirmed by the ‘SCS Certified Responsible Source’ seal of approval.

Full traceability permits the manufacturing of a high-grade fibre material of a consistent quality that forms the prerequisite for smooth process sequences during all stages of manufacturing and within the context of textile rental services.
