The Sustainable technologies project launched four years ago by ACIMIT, the Association of Textile Machinery Manufacturers, has reported success with 40 Italian manufacturers adhering to the project and 530 green labels issued since 2011.

The news comes as Italian technology is showcasing the high level of innovation at the ITMA Asia + CITME 2014 that is now taking place in Shanghai. “The textile industry needs machinery that allow for the production of creative, quality yarns and fabrics, while reducing the environmental impact of its production processes,” commented Raffaella Carabelli, President of ACIMIT.

“For years now, Italian textile machinery companies have been researching and experimenting with technology solutions capable of reducing water and energy consumption, cutting on the use of chemicals, and producing less waste and fewer emissions. The results obtained confirm that maximizing research and innovation is the right strategy.”

Cutting production costs

In 2014 ACIMIT has published the second edition of ACIMIT Green Guide, providing a summary of the actions taken by Italian textile machinery firms in the field of sustainability.

For the companies adhering to the Sustainable Technologies project, the Green Guide lists the technology innovations that allow machine users to cut production costs while adopting environmentally friendly measures. A Chinese version of the guide is being distributed at ITMA Asia in Shanghai.

In addition to the 40 companies which are already part of the project, other Italian exhibitors at ITMA Asia are prepared to display the progress made by their technology concerning cost reduction and production resource savings to the visitors.

Commitment to sustainability

“ITMA Asia is the most important trade show in Asia for textile machinery companies and their customers. It’s the place where our industry shows its concrete commitment to environmental issues,” explained Raffaella Carabelli.

“A commitment that ACIMIT takes very seriously, as shown by the technologies developed by its members manufacturers: machinery with excellent performance that are eco-friendly, providing environmental as well as economic advantages, while significantly cutting costs related to water, energy and waste consumption. A sustainable industry is above all a competitive industry, producing value and social wellbeing, and it is a responsible industry because it looks towards the future.”

Environmental conservation

“Italy, with its high-tech and eco-friendly manufactures, is one of the most important players in the textile machinery industry,” said Claudio Pasqualucci, Italian Trade Commissioner in Shanghai. “Italian high quality machines will foster China textile industry’s quality and will provide environmental conservation.”

“In Easter China that is the area of competence of ICE Shanghai there are the top three provinces for textile and garment industry: Zhejiang, Jiangsu and Fujian, that along with the provinces Guangdong and Shandong reach around 80% of the industry’s production capability –– and Italy remains one of the leading suppliers of textile machinery in China: it is strong in machines for preparing especially textile fibres and yarns, machines for cleaning, dyeing and finishing, machines, knitting, stitch-bond, lace and auxiliary machinery for use with textile machines.”
