Top adventure racing team uses TeXtreme reinforced kayaks

Thule Adventure team, one of the highest ranked multi-sport team in the world, used TeXtreme technology in its new K1 kayak, specially made for multi-sports.

“We wanted to reduce weight but keep the strength and with TeXtreme they could achieve just that. When you race for several days in a row, and cover such great distances it is important to have the best possible gear and really lightweight products,” commented Martin Flinta, Team Leader of Thule Adventure Team.

Next generation

TeXtreme is the next generation of carbon fibre material in the sporting goods industry. It is based on using Spread Tows instead of yarns to achieve materials that are used to produce ultra light weight and high-performance products.

Companies utilizing the TeXtreme Technology are said to achieve better properties on weight, stiffness, strength, etc. compared to those using other conventional carbon fibre materials.

Many sports have seen the use of TeXtreme make an immediate and dominant impact on performance, among others, Formula 1 racing, Americas Cup, NASCAR, Le Mans, ice hockey, bicycles, tennis and surf boards.

Thule Adventure Team

Thule Adventure Team is a Swedish multisport team that has been leading the Adventure Racing sport for many years and won a large number of prestigious races, including two World Championships.

The team consists of some of the world’s best multisport athletes, they have an impressive list of accomplishments, include two titles in the Adventure Racing World Championship. Multisport is an endurance sport with emphasis on orienteering, mountain biking, kayaking and running in different environments and distances.

The team members train meticulously 30-40 hours a week, building world class stamina and refining techniques in the different disciplines and challenges thrown at them. Thule Adventure Team will compete together in, typically, 10-12 races a year, travelling the world in search of adventure and the ultimate adrenaline rush.

Spread Tow reinforcements

Spread Tow reinforcements is a type of composite reinforcements based on novel technologies rendering a material that is said to give unique possibilities for weight savings and performance improvements as well as cost and time savings when looking at the total cost of the composite, rather than just compare price per sqm.

Through reduced amount of material and labour time by using fewer plies and the superior surface smoothness also rendering substantial time savings this can all be achieved simultaneously as saving weight, the company reports.
