On 9 December 2011, Prof. Stefan Mecheels, Head of the Hohenstein Institute, opened the new test laboratory at the International Textile Testing and Service Centre in Hong Kong. It was an opportunity to tell the approximately 70 invited guests from all around the world about the work of the Hohenstein experts.
German scientists have developed a new versatile functional yarn which aims to give maximum comfort and has excellent thermal insulation properties. Working in partnership with Zwickauer Kammgarn GmbH and Helmut Peterseim Strickwaren GmbH in Mühlhausen, researchers at the Hohenstein Institute in Bönnigheim, have developed an innovative new yarn for knitted textiles.
With 11,283 certificates issued in the last year alone, and more than 9,500 companies
involved in the scheme in over 90 countries, the OEKO-TEX organisation says its
OEKO-TEX Standard 100 has once again confirmed its position as the world's
leading certification scheme for textiles tested for harmful substances.

Teijin Aramid introduced its latest unidirectional laminate fabric, Twaron UD41 at the A+A show in Dusseldorf yesterday, which has been specially developed for bulletproof vests to provide extra protection from different types of attack.
