DSM Dyneema has announced that protective vests based on the company’s Dyneema Force Multiplier Technology were selected for an exclusive United States Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) contract for protecting Bureau personnel.

The contract, awarded to a partnership of Point Blank Enterprises and Tactical & Survival Specialties (TSSi), will provide FBI personnel with the Alpha Elite body armour system.

Selection criteria included evaluations of performance, weight, flexibility and comfort. The Alpha Elite system, designed by Point Blank, uses Dyneema Force Multiplier Technology material to deliver high performance protection in the lightest weight vests currently on the market, the company reports.

Ballistics protection

“The selection of Alpha Elite to protect FBI personnel serves as yet another confirmation that Dyneema Force Multiplier Technology’s enhanced ballistics protection makes never before possible armour designs now realistic,” said Shitij Chabba, Global Business Segment Director, Life Protection, DSM Dyneema.

“Industry leading armour manufacturers can utilise this revolutionary material technology to create lighter and thinner designs that provide the superior protection necessary to keep law enforcement personnel safe.”

Protective vests

Point Blank and TSSi will supply protective vests in configurations certified to meet National Institute of Justice (NIJ) level II and level IIIA standards, depending on individual agents’ duties and unique needs. Systems were tailored to unique FBI specifications, and will be offered in concealable and tactical designs and with or without plate carrier capabilities.

“This contract builds on our core business within the US federal market and is testament to our leadership position in providing unparalleled protective solutions across the board to our federal, state and local enforcement agencies,” said Michael Foreman, Executive Vice President, International Business Development, Federal Sales and Marketing, Point Blank Enterprises.

“We will continue to focus on driving innovation and improving performance to support all officers in their missions. Protecting lives remains our number 1 priority.”

Weight reducing

Compared to body armour made from traditional materials such as aramid, protective vests engineered with Dyneema Force Multiplier Technology are said to reduce weight by up to 30%, while enhancing law enforcement officers’ comfort and agility with fewer layers of material and increased flexibility.

Built on DSM Dyneema’s Radical Innovation Platform, this technology combines breakthroughs in polymer science, next-generation UHMwPE fiber technology and unique uni-directional engineering, the manufacturer reports.
