In response to the challenging demand of reducing vehicles weight, costs and cycle times, Chomarat, an international textile group, will be showing its innovative carbon range C-PLY with a carbon roof panel for the Roding Roadster at the CAMX composites and advanced materials exhibition that takes place from 13-16 October in Orlando, FI.

“Indeed, Chomarat’s carbon reinforcements in automotive structures and external hang-on body panels requiring a class A finish, are efficient and competitive solutions,” said Francisco De Oliveira, Automotive Market Director at Chomarat.

“We have developed with our partners a solution saving time-consuming rework, which can amount up to 60% of the costs per component.”

Carbon reinforcement properties

C-PLY is a carbon reinforcement that can also be used in aerospace, which is said to allow the development of innovative designs that are competitively priced and offer superior value via improved strength, reduced weight, and high quality surface finish, the company reports.

Chomarat is also bringing to the forefront a 0.25 scale version of the VX1-KittyHawk, the aircraft made from C-Ply. Thanks to its unique shape made possible by C-PLY, the hybrid aircraft designed by VX Aerospace is said to minimise its environmental footprint and compete in the CAMX Awards for Composites Excellence in the Design Category.

“The volume will also allow KittyHawk to lead the way in adopting CNG (compressed natural gas) as an aviation fuel. Existing technology CNG tanks fit inside the aircraft with no aerodynamic compromise,” commented Bob Skillen, VX Aerospace’s CEO.

Innovation in glass reinforcement

For railway and construction applications, Chomarat has developed Rovicore FR (Fire Resistant) reinforcement that is designed to provide a solution for the manufacturing of fire resistant composite parts.

A glass fibre based reinforcement with a halogen free core, Rovicore FR is said to meet fire classification requirements and is especially adapted to closed mould processes.
