The 51st Dornbirn Man-Made Fibers Congress will take place from 19 – 21 September 2012 in Dornbirn in the Vorarlberg region of Austria, where over 700 delegates from more than 30 countries will meet to discuss the future of the man-made fibres industry.

The congress’ newly adopted ‘corporate‘ image (see bottom image) which is said to represent the dynamism of the global fibre market is said to have been positively accepted by all visitors, lecturers, members and sponsors contacted. Accordingly, the organisers, the Austrian Man-Made Fibers Institute (Austrian-MFI), expect this year’s conference to be a particularly vibrant and strong one.

The Austrian-MFI says the macroeconomic disruptions and a high volatility during the last twelve months have been characterizing the international global economy and therefore the man-made fibres industry.

However, it says the global fibre market (natural and man-made fibres) will reach the 100 million tonne threshold in a few years and is currently showing annual growth rates of 3-4%.

Due to the number of early bird registrations already received compared with registrations at this time last year a well attended event can be expected, say the organisers. The conference is also said to be ‘fit for the future’ with an enlarged spectrum of lectures. Last year, over one hundred experts from industry and academia gave lectures.

“At the anniversary event of the man-made fibres congress in the previous year, the foundation was laid for the next 50 years. Accordingly, the focus of this year’s 51st Dornbirn MFC will be on the future viability based on sustainability, innovation and communication with the upcoming generations,” the Austrian MFI says.

An important topic this year will be ‘Fibers and Textiles in Automobiles’ and a session on ‘Unconventional Fiber Applications’ aims to provide delegates with new incentives. Other focal points at this year’s conference will be:

  • Fiber Innovations
  • Man-made Fibers for Environmental Protection
  • Medical Applications
  • Technical Nonwovens
  • EU-Projects

Further details can be found at the conference website www.dornbirn-mfc.com .

Organisers say that the topic selection shows that they are further pursuing the aim of developing the Dornbirn MFC into a central communication platform in Europe where important future topics impacting the man-made fibre industry will be highlighted and discussed.

This year a strong delegation from Japan is expected at Dornbirn. Speakers and participants from academic circles, research and industry and all along the processing chain are expected to take advantage of this event to share valuable ideas, findings and knowledge.

Growth in young participants

“Europe owns the densest network of research institutes and universities in the world and therefore communication with the upcoming generations is an important request,” the organisers say.

“For the first time 6 students from universities will have the possibility to present a shortened version of their research work to delegates and afterwards to visitors in more detail on posters in the exhibition area in the foyer.”

Clustering

The events cooperation with Germany’s VDMA is underlined by the meeting of the working group ‘Textiles in Automotive’ in Dornbirn.

“This enables us to get latest information about the use of man-made fibres in this lead-industry and by their suppliers,” organisers say. Further events before or during the Dornbirn-MFC with representatives from similar organisations are planned for the coming years.

Registration

The organisers suggest that delegates make use of this unique event as a communication platform and experience the future of man-made fibres by registering at www.dornbirn-mfc.com .
