Cytec Industrial Materials, an international provider of advance composite materials, will be exhibiting at the DSEI, the defence and security exhibition show, that will be held in the ExCeL Centre, London, from 10- 13 September.

Focusing on innovation and advanced technology, the company manufactures and sells products that serve a diverse range of end markets including aerospace and industrial materials, mining and plastics.

The company’s  prepreg products are used extensively in a variety of defence applications. These range from ballistic and blast protection systems in armoured fighting vehicles to structural components for vehicle and naval applications as well as radomes and communication dishes. Advanced composite materials are also used in lightweight protective helmets and body armour.

Lightweight protection

Demonstrating its expertise in the ballistics arena, Cytec will exhibit a panel, manufactured using a hot press moulding technique with Cytec’s S2-Glass reinforced MTM248S epoxy resin prepreg.

This panel can be moulded to the requisite shape to manufacture spall liners which match the contours of the vehicle interior, thus increasing the protected area while reducing overall component weight.

According to the company, the material is currently in full-scale production and ballistics protection parts have now been supplied for fitment to an in-service fleet of vehicles.

Another highlight of the company’s presence at the DSEI are dismounted soldier protection items, including a helmet and a body armour vest.

Technologically advanced

According to Cytec, the company’s extensive research and development facility has produced leading technologically advanced prepregs, adhesives and ancillaries which provide oven/vacuum bag and autoclave processing options.

The company’s Industrial Materials segment provides advanced composite and process materials for aerospace, automotive, wind energy, motorsport, marine, mass transportation and other demanding applications.

The product portfolio supports the end-to-end manufacturing of composite parts and includes tooling, fibre, prepregs, resin systems, vacuum bagging, and adhesive, resin and surfacing films.
