red carJohnson Controls Inc (JCI) has announced it is planning to buy French manufacturer of automotive interiors textiles Michel Thierry, of Laroque d'Olmes. Details of the acquisition were not disclosed.

According to a report in Wisconsin’s Journal Sentinel, Glendale-based Johnson Controls said the deal will make it one of the global leaders in textiles and integrated trim and set the stage for growth. Michel Thierry whose product line includes automotive textiles and leather for seating and interiors, is said to have about 1700 employees. JCI said its expertise in cut and sew operations and Michel Thierry's expertise in fabrics will meet increasing demand by customers for integrated services, from fabrics to complete seats.

The acquisition, which is expected to close on 20 November, puts Johnson Controls in a position for growth in Chinese and North American markets, the company said.

Johnson Controls, which is said to be Wisconsin's largest company based on sales, makes batteries, seats and interior products for cars and trucks. It also operates a building-efficiency business that produces controls and equipment and provides a range of services including energy management.
