Kemo Bikes showcased their new range of road bikes at the Eurobike show in Friedrichshafen, Germany, for the first time. The top of the line frame model KE-R8 5KS is built using TeXtreme Spread Tow carbon fabrics, by Oxeon.

According to the company, by using the TeXtreme Technology, Kemo have realised a bike with excellent properties in stiffness compared to the low weight at 759 grams.

TeXtreme is the next generation carbon fibre material in the bicycle industry based on using Spread Tows (yarns) instead of yarns to achieve ultra light weight and high-performance products. Companies utilising the TeXtreme Technology have achieved better properties on weight savings, stiffness and more, compared to using only other carbon fibre materials, Oxeon reports.

Kemo Bikes

Kemo Bikes are the latest project for the Comalli brothers that have over twenty years of experience in the bike industry and are known for their focus on innovation, style and design. Launched in 2001 at the  Milan trade fair, Kemo Bikes, the manufacturer of high-end carbon bicycles, was building frames with the slogan ‘Handmade Quality Frames’.

Mario Comalli R&D Manager of Kemo Bikes said: “We are happy to have introduced Kemo to the world and the usage of TeXtreme was a key to get the desired performance in our top model. We are satisfied that TeXtreme has helped contribute to a good weight to stiffness performance improvement and additional aspect we value highly is that this is a technology that can be easily explained to the consumer market.”

Working together

“We are glad to add another bike brand into the TeXtreme user family alongside successful products that already have contributed to among others victories in recent years Tour de France races,” said  Andreas Martsman, VP – Marketing & Sales of Oxeon.

“Our goal is always to work together with the brand and provide them with a reinforcement solution that help them make the best possible product based on their needs, no matter if it is reducing weight, increasing stiffness, reducing layers in the manufacturing process or a mix of different needs.”

TeXtreme

According to Oxeon, its Spread Tow reinforcements are the ultimate choice for making ultra light composites and its technology is flexible and tow-size independent, which enables development of optimised reinforcement solutions tailor-made for specific application needs.

Utilisation of TeXtreme Spread Tow carbon fabrics and carbon UD tapes by manufacturers of advanced aerospace, industrial and sports products confirms that 20-30% lighter composite parts can be produced with improved mechanical properties and superior surface smoothness.
