Sigmatex, a leader in the manufacturing of carbon fibre textiles, has selected Matthews Industrial Park in Orangeburg County as the location for its next manufacturing facility.

The company will invest US 12 million and create 50 jobs over the next five years. This investment in Orangeburg County is one of the largest capital investment projects the company has undertaken.  The facility is scheduled to be in operation by mid-2015 to begin supplying its North American customers.

“We are very excited to be building our latest manufacturing facility in South Carolina. This will be our second, and largest, in North America, representing a major step in our commitment to global expansion,” said Scott Tolson, Sigmatex CEO.

Expansion goals

Sigmatex, which supplies the aerospace and automotive industries, adds to the growing number of aerospace related companies based in Orangeburg County.

The company will be the first to be located in the John W. Matthews Industrial Park.  The new 75,000 square-foot facility will be located on 20 acres at the entrance to the Park.

In order to meet its expansion goals, the facility will be constructed so that it can be expanded to 150,000 square-feet and eventually up to 450,000 square-feet to accommodate the potential growth in the aerospace and automotive industries.

 Strong position

“To have Sigmatex join our community and establish this facility is good news for Orangeburg and for South Carolina. They will complement and further strengthen our position in the composites and advanced materials field. We welcome them and will support them in finding opportunities to grow their business in our state,” commented Nikki Haley, South Carolina Governor.

Secretary of Commerce Bobby Hitt also noted: “Foreign Direct Investment continues to be a critical piece of South Carolina’s economic development strategy. We are thrilled to welcome Sigmatex to The Palmetto State. I congratulate them on this terrific announcement and look forward to all of their future growth and success in our state.”
