A new range of advanced smart fabrics designed to improve animal healthcare has been developed by 3E Smart Solutions and produced on the state-of-the-art embroidery systems of ZSK, both of whom are based in Krefeld, Germany.

Working closely together, the two companies have embedded smart components including sensors, LEDs (light-emitting diodes), heating elements and therapeutic technologies directly into fabrics. This integration promises to enhance the way animals are monitored, treated and cared for.

ZSK has long been a leader in using embroidery to incorporate sensors and electronics into textiles, drawing on decades of precision engineering expertise. Its technical embroidery technology makes it possible to stitch circuit boards, sensors and conductive pathways directly into fabrics. This reduces mechanical strain, improves signal quality and removes the need for additional connectors.

By using conductive threads and precision wire placement, ZSK can create low-resistance traces and multiple signal channels and embed components such as temperature sensors, LEDs and antennas within the fabric structure. This approach supports a broad range of applications – from wearable health monitoring to wireless communication – while offering exceptional precision, durability and design flexibility.

Biosensors

At the heart of 3E’s products are biosensors embroidered into textiles for the continuous monitoring of key health indicators such as heart rate, ECG (electrocardiogram), respiration and muscle activity. These sensors are integrated into harnesses, collars and blankets without sacrificing comfort, flexibility,# or durability.

One standout innovation is the Smart Equine Harness, a washable, breathable garment that provides real-time health data via Bluetooth. It is designed for veterinary diagnostics, athletic training of animals, and proactive health management.

3E also applies its technology to light-based therapy. Soft, flexible LED arrays are embroidered into garments to deliver red and near-infrared (NIR) light for ‘photobiomodulation’ – a non-invasive therapy that reduces inflammation and supports tissue healing.
