Freudenberg Nonwovens will be exhibiting its wide range of products and technologies at IDEA 2013 – the International Engineered Fabrics Conference & Expo, which is being held from 22-25 April in Miami Beach, Florida.

A number of products and applications will be on display at the Freudenberg booth, including the company’s newest sustainable spunlaid nonwoven, Lutradur ECO made with Repreve. In addition, products from a number of major market segments including transportation, innovation, building and specialty will also be shown.

A number of products and applications will be on display at the Freudenberg booth, including the company’s newest sustainable spunlaid nonwoven, Lutradur ECO made with Repreve.

"IDEA 2013 gives us the opportunity to showcase a wide variety of Freudenberg Nonwovens products for several of our key market segments, with a special focus on eco-friendliness. Events like IDEA 2013 are important because they provide the opportunity to receive input from our current and potential customers which we can apply in our product development," says John McNabb, General Manager North America.

Freudenberg Nonwovens is introducing its innovative and eco-friendly spunlaid nonwoven product Lutradur ECO, made with Repreve recycled PET resin from Unifi at the show - Repreve is made with recycled materials, including plastic bottles.

“Lutradur ECO has the same outstanding product properties such as dimensional stability, high temperature resistance, non-fray properties and surface uniformity, only it's better for the planet thanks to Repreve, Freudenberg says. “Lutradur ECO is suitable for many applications, including wall covering substrates, carpet backing, landscape and geotextiles, green roof systems, building and construction, coating and printing substrates, and many other end uses.”

Lutradur ECO polyester is comprised of 90% recycled content (50% PCR – post consumer recycle) and is available in weights of 80 gsm - 120 gsm and widths of up to 510 cm.

Transportation

The Transportation segment will feature its award-winning Lutraflor product, a new generation of nonwoven carpeting. This material consists of a 100% polyester composite construction using a colour mastered staple fibre layer and a spunlaid nonwoven substrate. It is said to have superior abrasion resistance, luxurious appearance, and a high recycled content to help achieve green initiatives. The weight-saving material will compliment other Lutradur applications within the transportation line-up such as automotive under body shields and carpet tile backings for the airline industry.

Innovation

New applications using Freudenberg-produced materials will also be on display in the Innovation sector of the booth. Materials such as Evolon, a unique microfilament fabric, have been fabricated into novel end-use products such as in-flight service blankets for the airline industry and durable sleeping bags for the outdoor enthusiast. Newly developed Lutrabond Fine Denier materials will also be a focus in this segment to promote its several key benefits such as web uniformity, high tear resistance and most importantly the ability to seal, weld, laminate or print with the substrate.

A number of furniture and bedding products using many well known Freudenberg brands such as Lutradur, Evolon, and Celestia will be a part of Freudenberg’s Building showcase. End-use applications such as dust covers, anti-mite bedding, and fire retardant mattress covers serve various functions of protection.

Construction

Green building products will also be on display for customers wishing to meet their sustainability initiatives with the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) LEED credit system. Examples of these materials include wall covering substrates made from Lutradur Eco and reinforced needle punch materials made from bottle flake for the roofing market.

To round off the Freudenberg exhibit, the Specialty segment has a wide variety of applications from disposable to durable products. Disposables include substrates for medical transdermal patches, wound care, adsorptives and cover layers for hygiene products. Industrial products will also be shown, such as water blocking tapes for cable, electrical insulators and surface veils for fibre reinforced plastics (FRP) composites.

Freudenberg Nonwovens has 21 manufacturing and processing sites in 13 countries. The company manufactures interlinings for the apparel industry and nonwovens for energy, automotive interiors, hygiene, medical, building interiors, geotextiles and specialites. In 2011, Freudenberg Nonwovens, which is part of the Freudenberg Group, generated sales of over 660 million Euros with a workforce of 3150 people.
