At last week’s Functional Fabric Fair in Portland, Oregon, (November 13–14), Italian companies BeDimensional and Windtex Vagotex introduced BeLeaf, a jointly developed thermoregulating membrane.

BeLeaf exploits two-dimensional hexagonal boron nitride (h-BN) to enhance heat management and guarantee the best durability and mechanical strength in such products.

Independent laboratory analysis has confirmed the effectiveness of BeLeaf technology, showing how the integration of boron nitride significantly improves the heat management of fabrics. Compared to a standard membrane, B-Leaf offers superior thermal conductivity and diffusivity, a cooler feel to the touch and faster heat dissipation.

Launched in 2016 as a spin-off of the Graphene Labs of the Italian Institute of Technology (IIT), BeDimensional aims to produce two-dimensional crystals at industrial levels and at competitive costs, in order to the assist the manufacturers of technical apparel, footwear and outdoor gear to develop more efficient, sustainable and high-performance materials.

The company has recently secured funding to scale up its production of h-BN from three to 30 tons by 2028.
