Full Product Description

China’s Chemical Fiber Producers: 50 company profiles

Although China is still the clear market leader in the global manmade fibres industry (at 24.1m tonnes the country produces almost 61% of total world output), its profits decreased considerably during the second half of 2008 compared with the same period of the previous year.

According to the China Chemical Fiber Association, profitability fell because of the fluctuation in the price of crude oil – a result of the global financial crisis, which has also caused a slowdown in the demand for man-made fibres and their finished products.

Besides the challenge of global overcapacity, China’s manmade fibre producers are facing the risk of bankruptcy and a slowdown in investments. However, there are signs that operating rates are beginning to recover.

Meanwhile, the Chinese man-made fibre industry is initiating a series of measures to get the sector back on track. These include eliminating outdated capacity, increasing the output of high-tech fibres, increasing investment in foreign textile markets, and the merger and reconstruction of producers. By the end of 2008, the 30 largest Chinese man-made fibre companies had an annual capacity of more than 13.2m tonnes accounting for 49% of China’s total capacity.

By 2010, it is estimated the country will have six chemical fibre giants, each of them with a turnover of more than CNY20bn (US $2.9bn). Publication date December 2009 Available through Textile Media Services
