Chomarat, the leading specialist in textile reinforcements for composite materials, will present two brand-new reinforcements at this year’s JEC Europe 2015 composites trade show that takes place from 10-12 March in Paris.

The company will present G-FLOW made of glass fibre and C-PLY ULTRA THIN, of carbon fibre.

“G-FLOW is a 100% glass reinforcement fabric for the infusion process. It enables substantial cost savings without sacrificing on mechanical properties, commented Michel Cognet, the Group’s General Manager.

“To my knowledge, it is the only one on the market that combines structural and flow properties. This also applies to large parts, thanks to its good permeability and exceptional flow rate over long distances without the addition of an external flow medium.”

Cost effective

The flow function is made possible by G-FLOW’s unusual textile structure. The integration of this function decreases the number of supply networks required, and it reduces the use of consumables and the processing time, the company reports.

The tests that were performed show that material costs dropped by 20-30% and that cycle times were 10% shorter compared to a solution requiring an external flow medium. They also demonstrated that the use of G-FLOW preserves the same tensile and flexural properties as for a laminate created using an external flow medium.

“This is why it adapts just as well to the boating market as to wind energy or transportation, for example,” said Michel Cognet.

C-PLY ULTRA THIN

Chomarat is introducing its new intermediate-modulus (IM) carbon fibre product, C-PLY ULTRA THIN. “Chomarat is pushing the technological envelope with this new areal weight of non-crimp fabric (NCF) carbon reinforcements, the most recent in our C-PLY line,” said Michel Cognet.

“The latest developments enabled the production of a biaxial with 50 gsm plies (for a total 100 gsm) made of IM carbon fibre. Besides its excellent mechanical performance and incomparable lightness, this reinforcement can be processed using RTM, infusion or prepregs, just like all the reinforcements in the C-PLY line.”

Developed for the sports and leisure sector, the reinforcement is also suitable for the automotive industry, according to the manufacturer.
