Johns Manville (JM) has received another new approval by Germanisher Lloyd (GL) for glass fibres to be used in wind turbine blades.

StarRov 076 direct roving is used to reinforce the product range in NCF (Non-Crimped Fabrics) and weaving processes.  StarRov 086 (already GL approved) and StarRov 076 aim to further strengthen the company’s offer which includes the MultiStar 586 and 563 product line used for complex fabric manufacturing.

“This new approval confirms that JM’s StarRov product line continues to meet the most stringent quality standards in the market. The company places tremendous importance on supporting the European weaving industry as evidenced by its continuous efforts as an independent glass fibre manufacturer to provide high-quality products and services to its customers,” JM said in a statement.

Both StarRov 086 and 076 are used in wind turbines and are said to be also suitable for marine and industrial applications. According to JM, the products are particularly suitable for the resin infusion process due to their good wetting characteristics and excellent fatigue behaviour in epoxy systems.

Johns Manville, a Berkshire Hathaway company, is a leading manufacturer and marketer of premium-quality products for building insulation, mechanical insulation, commercial roofing, and roof insulation, as well as fibres and nonwovens for commercial, industrial and residential applications.

The company serves markets that include aerospace, automotive and transportation, air handling, appliance, HVAC, pipe and equipment, filtration, waterproofing, building, flooring, interiors and wind energy.

In business since 1858, the Denver-based company has annual sales of approximately $2.5 billion and holds leadership positions in all of the key markets that it serves. JM employs approximately 6,600 people and operates 40 manufacturing facilities in North America, Europe and China.
