Composites UK has achieved a record number of delegate registrations at its Annual Conference and automotive sector showcase events for the last month.
The Annual Conference, held on 13 May at Warwick Manufacturing Group’s International Digital Laboratory (IDL), guided 75 attendees through the current opportunities and developments of the UK composites industry, also discussing the challenges faced by companies going forward.
“The event was a huge success and the interest was phenomenal. Seeing delegates queue outside the auditorium after the presentations to obtain further information and business cards will stay with me for a long time,” commented Andrew Dugmore, Composites UK’s Chairman.
Changes
“One of the changes to the event we made this year was to run the Annual Conference as a one-day event, rather than over two days, but have an event with a different focus the following day. Our Board decided to host the latest in our Sector Showcase events, this time on the theme of the use of fibre-reinforced polymer composites in the automotive sector,” explained Claire Whysall, Communications Manager for Composites UK.
“The IDL lends itself to these types of events with a large mezzanine, which allowed 18 of our member companies to have table-top exhibition displays where they could speak to over 100 delegates and answer questions regarding the composite solutions they already supply to the automotive sector.”
“We changed the theme of the conference in 2014 to be more industry focussed. After listening to member feedback we refined the programme to topics pivotal to their core business needs,” she added.
Future plans
At the coinciding Annual General Meeting, the Association welcomed two new members to its Board of Directors – Ben Wilson of MPM Limited and Clara Frias of the National Composites Certification and Evaluation Facility (NCCEF). Ben and Clara join nine other Board Directors taking Composites UK forward for the commencing year.
Phil Sloan, Business Development Manager of Composites in Manufacturing Magazine said that the Automotive Showcase was a great event, very well organised and fantastically well attended by the composites sector.
Composites UK is now planning its next events, which cover topics such as bioresins, thermoplastics, a further sector showcase on construction, and new regional events highlighting business help available in different localities.
